"On obtaining certification, we are signalling to our clients that information security has top priority for us," affirms Dr Torben Birker. "We also ensure that we provide an optimum degree of information security and are able to evaluate or measurably enhance it on a permanent basis in the future."

Greater information and data security requirements are the result of technological development. Engineering companies such as TECOSIM use information technology to create, store, transport and further process substantial quantities of information. Such data needs to be protected against damage, manipulation or unauthorised access. "We work with highly sensitive client data. The certification attests that we successfully meet our clients' technical and organizational requirements at all times. Compliance also ensures we protect our own in-house development projects," continues Birker.

Certification confirms how effective our data protection processes are. The ISMS is designed to protect all data from unauthorised access, loss or forgery. TECOSIM has appointed its own Information Security Officer, who reports directly to Executive Management. She works together with the Data Protection Officer to monitor the system, internal processes and documentation. The team identifies possible risks and takes suitable measures as required. Other precautionary measures also help to ensure information security. These include two-level authentication for access to project data, electronic access control in all company buildings and project offices, and the setting-up of security zones around locations such as server rooms.

TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH will now be carrying out checks on a yearly basis to ensure that TECOSIM complies with the ISO 27001 standards. A TÜV Rheinland audit will be performed every three years for re-certification. TECOSIM has introduced the internationally recognised standard at all seven of its German locations to start with. Preparations are underway for certification for the TECOSIM locations in Bangalore in India and in Basildon and Coventry in the UK.
