In engineering, benchmarking often makes a comparison between the hardware of two competitors. The data acquired is then used to determine the strengths and weaknesses of a product based on the materials and design structure used, for example. With TEC|BENCH™, we at TECOSIM take this process one step further.
Using the hardware data, we produce CAE models in several steps, from which we obtain valuable, virtual information. This information allows us to study aspects of structure mechanics and CFD which cannot be analysed without simulation. Transformed into CAE models, the hardware offers a direct comparison on a virtual level and can be converted into its own virtual concept geometry. This enables TECOSIM to create a new analysis environment and, consequently, a new design environment, thus offering customers a strong head start over their competitors.

The advantages of TEC|BENCH at a glance:
Better understanding of a competitor‘s product and the considerable competitive advantage gained from such knowledge
Benchmarking information directly accessible in the engineers‘ virtual development environment at any time
Needs-based and results-oriented analyses for specific tasks
Savings on time and costs
Unites the key fields of engineering expertise: testing, benchmarking, scanning, reverse engineering and simulation
Integrates into the early development stage extremely well, closely interlinked with concept determination tools
TEC|BENCH in the automotive industry
TECOSIM particularly focuses on providing TEC|BENCH™ projects for customers in the automotive industry. Due to increasingly shorter product cycles, a steadily growing variety of model ranges and the establishment of niches, product comparisons are becoming increasingly more important for automotive manufacturers.
Through its TEC|BENCH™ projects, TECOSIM offers project management from a single supplier. Thanks to our expertise and comprehensive experience, we know how created virtual models need to work.
Step by step
The hardware is captured and digitalised using photogrammetry. This enables TECOSIM to reproduce CAD data of vehicle components or complete vehicles, for instance. The geometric data are then transformed into CAE models using TECOSIM’s own STL converter hardware. The customer thus receives the basis for virtual calculations of their competitor’s product, enabling them to analyse its strengths and weaknesses. This provides a comparison with the customer’s own product at very early development stages, thus offering an enormous competitive advantage.
Other areas of use
In addition to providing comparison with competitors' products, the TEC|BENCH™ method can also be used in other areas:
In quality assurance, to compare design and geometry
