TEC|CONCEPT at Car Body Construction Conference in Hamburg

TECOSIM and Fast Concept Modelling & Simulation (FCMS) GmbH will be presenting the new process solution TEC|CONCEPT at the Car Body Construction Conference in Hamburg on 10 and 11 May. This method speeds up and optimises design definition in the early concept stage of vehicle development. Solutions produced are presented in a native CAD format (Catia), which makes communication between calculation and design much easier.

Lightweight design, innovative materials and alternative manufacturing processes are topics of overriding importance within the field of vehicle development and are the focus of this year's Car Body Construction Conference in Hamburg. Virtual vehicle development plays an increasingly important role in achieving individual design objectives since it helps to speed up the process and make implementation more cost effective.

The CAE specialist TECOSIM and the software company FCMS, which focuses on process efficiency and shape parameters, are presenting a new approach to accelerating the development process: TEC|CONCEPT. It consists of a method to calculate complete vehicle or component designs which pinpoint optimisation potential not only in the early development phase, but also in detailing at a later stage.

The method was devised by a development consortium consisting of TECOSIM, FCMS, Dynardo GmbH and Munich University of Applied Sciences. Professor Dr Klemens Rother from the university will be representing the group as he presents the method in his lecture "Efficient computer-based development of chassis concepts" on 10 May. TEC|CONCEPT can be used to harmonise complex and varied requirements regarding aspects such as quality, weight, rigidity and crash behaviour at an early stage in development.

Unexplored potential can also be leveraged for platform and derivative development with regard to development costs, reduction in development times and increases in product quality through calculation optimisation and generation of variants.

Moreover, the new process solution also allows users to include a variety of different secondary conditions or proofs of concept and functionality, such as paintwork adhesion, deep drawability, welding and cost trends.
