During the early stages of the component development (long before expensive and intricate tests can be performed) a life-cycle analysis serves to assess and improve the design with regards to stability and durability.

 

Deploying FE life-cycle calculations, allows for the early identification and eradication of design weak-spots, which often results in weight saving potential and minimises the number of physical tests.

 

The calculation results include all underlying material property data, safety factors for static or cyclic loads, analysis parameters and the visualising of highly stressed areas, including detailed life-cycle calculations.

 

Today, most of the underlying methods are based on calculated durability data (S/N-curves) and local stress strain correlations. Special approaches are applied to calculate component connections such as joints, welding and bonding.
